Melania is feeling lonely and fed up. Her father has just been appointed commandant of Vinovia fort, near Hadrian’s wall. He is busy with his duties; her mother is occupied with her new baby boy. No one seems to notice Melania, unless she misbehaves.
Then she strikes up an unlikely friendship with Vitalis, a British boy from the village outside the fort.
Together, they realise that someone is plotting to overthrow Melania’s father. But no one will take their worries seriously, so they have to act alone – and act quickly!
